Introduction:

In the latest release (24.0) of the Newired application, an exciting feature emerges: Slug Functionality within the Overlay customization. This innovative tool provides users with the capability to determine what to send when collecting Page Views for Analytics, offering a streamlined alternative to transmitting the entire URL. This is particularly valuable in scenarios where URLs contain dynamic elements like timestamps and session IDs. The Slug Functionality enables the transformation of such dynamic parts into a unique page identifier, known as a Slug. This article explores the configuration and benefits of the Slug Functionality.

Slug Functionality Configuration:

The Slug Functionality is easily configurable via Advanced Settings at the Site level. This customization empowers users to define how the Overlay collects and transmits data for Analytics.

Dynamic Part Trimming:

Slug Functionality addresses the challenge of dynamic parts in URLs, such as timestamps and session IDs. Instead of transmitting these dynamic elements, the Slug serves as a concise and unique identifier for the page.

Enhanced Analytics Accuracy:

By sending Slugs instead of full URLs, Analytics data becomes more accurate and focused. Unnecessary variations caused by dynamic elements are eliminated, providing a clearer picture of user interactions.

Configuration:

The ease of configuring Slug Functionality at the Site level ensures that users can adapt their analytics strategy without complex adjustments. This streamlined approach enhances user experience and promotes efficient utilization.

Access Advanced Settings:

Navigate to the Site level settings and access the Advanced Settings section.

Locate Slug Functionality:

Within Advanced Settings, locate the Slug Functionality configuration options.

Define Slug Parameters:

Customize Slug parameters according to your analytics requirements. Define what elements should be transformed into slugs, tailoring the functionality to your specific use case.

Enhanced Privacy:

Transmitting Slugs instead of full URLs can enhance user privacy by excluding sensitive information.

Customization Flexibility:

Users can adapt Slug parameters based on their unique analytics needs.
