Segmentation is introduced and described in this article:
Segmentation: Creating & Assigning Segments
Segment rule
Segments with specified rule(s) can be used to adjust the Journey/Tip Visibility and/or Autostart conditions the same way as other conditions (URL rule, Element rule, Content rule and others).
Example: If you want to set a Journey to be visible/invisible based on some Segment conditions (for example only to a specific group of users), go to the Visibility tab in the Journey Edit dialog and select Segment rule from the dropdown menu for Visibility rules:
Once you select Segment rule, you can adjust it - choose the condition as "Is" or "Is not" from the first dropdown and the Segment from the second dropdown (all Segments created for that specific site are available in this dropdown list):
Such Journey will be then visible only when matching the conditions specified by the Segment rule(s).
The same way, Segment rule can be applied in all use cases where it is possible to set Visibility/Autostart conditions:
- Journey Visibility
- Journey Autostart
- Step Visibility
- Step Actions
- Tip Visibility
- Tip Autoshow
Combinations of Segments and Visibility/Autostart rules
Content creator is also allowed to apply Assigned Segments together with additional rules. In such use cases, Segment condition is evaluated first and if the user matches the Segment, then only other rules go through further evaluation:
How the use case from the image above will be applied:
- If the user doesn't match the Segment condition, the Journey will not be visible to him no matter whether the URL rule is met
- If the user matches the Segment, URL rule will be evaluated → if the rule is not met, the Journey will be invisible to the user
- If the user matches the Segment, URL rule will be evaluated → if the rule is met, the Journey will be visible to the user
The same way, Assigned Segments can be applied together with additional Autostart rules.
When multiple Segments are assigned to the Journey together with Visibility/Autostart rules, the additional rules are evaluated in case that the user matches at least one Segment.
