Setting up the theme devkit

The theme DevKit is a software provided to Newired users that let them create and customize themes with ease.

All the information in this article can be also found in the README file inside the devkit folder.

 Installing the Devkit

Step 1. In order to be installed and to work properly, the devkit needs you to install Node.js. To do this follow this link: https://nodejs.org/en/download/ and run the installation (do not select to install Chocolatey, as it isn't needed).

Step 2. To download the devkit, go to https://download.newired.com/ and enter your credentials, then download Newired Theme devkit, as shown below (please ensure that the devkit version is the same as your portal).

Step 3. Once you downloaded the .zip package, unzip it. Once in the unzipped folder, type the "cmd" command inside the directory of that folder, so that the command prompt that opens will already point to it.

Step 4. On the command prompt, type in the command: npm install

Then, click Enter. The expected output should be something like the image below.

(this step is only required the first time you are using the theme devkit, once it is installed you can skip to step 5)

Step 5. Type in the command prompt npm start and press enter.

This by default will start on port 8000, but you can modify that if needed.

You have now correctly installed the devkit. You can go to http://localhost:8000/   to view your theme preview.

Creating or editing a theme

To make changes to themes inside the devkit, can need a visual editor like (VScode) or any other code editor.
